A HAWAIIAN TAX COLLECTOR MENTIONS PROMINENT HAWAIIAN SETTLERS IN A LETTER TO GOVERNOR JOHN EDWARD BUSH OF KAUA’I

 

(HAWAII).  ALS. 2pgs. October 2, 1877. Waimea, Kauai, Hawai’i. An autograph letter signed Abraham Palekaluhi Tax-Collector Waimea”. Palekaluhi wrote in the Hawaiian language to Governor John Edward Bush of Kaua’i. He mentions Elizabeth Sinclair, a Scottish immigrant who had purchased the whole island of Ni’ihau in 1864, as well as mentions McBride, possibly the United States Minister to Hawai’i James McBride, and Kauai sugar plantation owner Valdemar Knudsen. The letter is in very good condition, separating at the fold, and there is no translation available.
