EDWARD R. BRADLEY (1859-1946). Bradley was a wealthy American businessman, horse breeder and philanthropist. His thoroughbreds won four Kentucky Derbies, three Preaknesses and two Belmont Stakes.
PS. 9” x 12 ½”. No date. No place. An oversized studio portrait signed “Sincerely at all times E.R. Bradley” on the lower margin. It shows the famous businessman, finely dressed, gazing into the camera. It is in very fine condition. I could locate no other signed photographs selling. |

EARLE COMBS (1899-1976). Combs played for the New York Yankees from 1924-1935 and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1970.
Signature. 1 pg. 8” x 10”. N.d. Yankee Stadium. The signature of “Earle Combs” on letterhead for the “New York Yankees Inc. BUSINESS AND TICKET OFFICES YANKEE STADIUM. BRONX, N.Y. 10451”. It also includes the primary logo of the New York Yankees, which was created in 1946. Combs, nicknamed the “Kentucky Colonel,” batted leadoff and played center field on the Yankees' legendary 1927 “Murderers' Row.” He is one of six players from that team who have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The item is in excellent condition, with only minor folds. |

NATIONAL LEAGUE PRESIDENT FRICK SIGNS A BASEBALL PLAYER FOR PITTSBURGH
FORD FRICK (1894-1978). In 1934, Frick became the public relations director for the National League, but was later named the organization’s president. He was instrumental in establishing the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, and threatened to suspend any players that protested Jackie Robinson’s entrance into the major league. In 1951, he became the commissioner of baseball. Frick was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1970.
DS. 4pg. 8 ½” x 11”. March 18, 1936. No Place. A National League of Professional Baseball Clubs Uniform Player’s Contract signed Ford Frick” as President of the National League, employing John J. Tissing, of Denver, Colorado as a player for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1936: “The Pittsburgh Athletic Company, operating the Pittsburgh Baseball Club, herein called the Club, and John J. Tissing of Denver, Colo., herein called the Player…The Club hereby employs the Player to render skilled service as a baseball player in connection with all games of the Club during the year 1936, including the Club’s training season, the Club’s exhibition games, the Club’s playing season, and the World Series (or any other official series in which the Club may participate and in any receipts of which the player be entitled to share); and the player covenants that he will perform with diligence and fidelity the service stated and such duties as may be required of him in such employment. For the service aforesaid the Club will pay the Player an aggregate salary of $400.00 per month.” The contract is in fine condition, with some toning at the edges. |
